A Child's Home Away from Home
CCH's Residential Treatment Program cares for boys ages 6-17 who are struggling with emotional and behavioral disturbances because of severe abuse or neglect. Each boy receives his own room, 24-hour support and supervision, on-grounds schooling, recreation and intensive therapy to help prepare them for a return to the community. For boys who have been sexually abused or exposed to inappropriate sexual influences at a young age, CCH offers specialized residential treatment in the Hope Center.
At the Cleveland Christian Home, our focus is on children and families. Our Adoption Program serves children and youth who are in the custody of state or county authorities because they have been abused and/or neglected. Most of the children we serve are older; many have behavioral, emotional or educational problems related to their previous care. Our mission is to prepare and support families so they can successfully accept the challenge of adopting.
The Agape Independent Living Program serves young adults ages 17-21 - especially teen mothers -- who can no longer live in foster care or with their natural families and who are about to leave child welfare custody. Youth in this program are given the help, encouragement and supervision needed to establish an apartment in the community, to complete high school and to develop the employment, life and parenting skills they will need to be successful, independent adults.
Hope & Healing for Families in Crisis
For children who are living at home, but whose families are in crisis, the Family Services Program provides community-based services designed to prevent abuse and neglect and preserve and strengthen families.
In this program, CCH's caseworkers and family therapists provide intensive family therapy and support to families who are at risk of having their children placed into protective custody; who are reuniting after having lost their children to custody; who are struggling to keep a teenager in the home or part of the family; or who are experiencing difficulty with a foster child.
Community Outreach
The Home's Outpatient Counseling Program offers therapy for children, teens, adults and families who are experiencing difficulties and/or are recovering from the effects of abuse or neglect. In addition, therapists from CCH's School-Based Counseling Program provide on-site therapy and intervention for at-risk children in the Cleveland Municipal Schools who might not otherwise receive counseling. Our on-site therapists also conduct esteem-building and other classroom group exercises.
The Transitional Jobs/Youth Employment Program provides employment and training opportunities for young adults ages 16 – 21 who are disengaged from the educational system and/or at risk of homelessness, unemployment, poor health, and the temptations of drug and alcohol abuse. Enrollment in the program requires active involvement of the participants in several interrelated components: Orientation, Paid Work Experience, Career Exploration Workshops/Professional Development, Job Placement and Retention services. The goal of CCH’s Transitional Jobs/Youth Employment Program is to ensure that participants are better off economically and can attain unsubsidized placement and retention in the regular labor market upon completion of the program.
CCH’s System of Care Program is a Care Coordination Partner who works with Cuyahoga Tapestry System of Care to serve children and their families who have serious emotional needs that severely disrupt relationships; have needs that require many sources of support that cannot be met by traditional services; and are at risk of more intensive involvement with Cuyahoga County’s child serving systems. CCH’s System of Care Program utilizes a collaborative, team-based approach to service delivery that is based on family voice and choice; the process of Wraparound and finding creative solutions to maintain current placements; the strengths of youth, family, neighborhood, needs and culture; and utilizes a team effort that involves the youth, their families, professionals, community and neighborhood supports working together.
Cleveland Christian Home, with funding from the Family & Children First Council now runs the Cuyahoga County Youth Resource Center (YRC) serving families in the community. The YRC is located at 5605 Detroit Road, Cleveland, OH 44102. The Center is open during non-traditional hours to help families and youth when they are experiencing conflict. The YRC is committed to strengthening families and communities by providing information, education, and support in order to prevent unnecessary system involvement. The Center’s services are available to all Cuyahoga County families. Whether you simply walk in, call, or come with a parent/guardian or police, we will be happy to assist you. There are no costs or fees associated with this service. We only ask that the parent/guardian bring a form of identification for safety purposes. The Center’s hours of operation are 7 days a week from 7pm-3am. The Center will be open 24 hours on the weekend beginning Summer ’09. The telephone number is 216/631-1997. If you have any questions or concerns, please email Eric Henz, Program Manager at ehenz@cchome.org, or Susan Mitchell, Director of the Center, at smitchell@cchome.org. The Cuyahoga County Youth Resource Center is made possible by the financial support of the Cuyahoga County Board of County Commissioners and in partnership with Cuyahoga County Family & Children First Council.
